FAQ
Freight shipping questions, answered
The questions we get most often from shippers, with real numbers instead of 'it depends'.
Common questions
How much does it cost to ship a full truckload?
Most dry van truckload lanes price between $2.00 and $3.50 per mile all-in, with a minimum around $400 for short runs. Open deck, refrigerated, and expedited freight price higher. Lane balance and season move the number more than mileage does.
How fast can you get a truck to my dock?
Standard dry van and flatbed capacity is usually covered same or next business day. Expedited sprinter and straight truck capacity can often roll within a few hours.
Should I ship LTL or truckload?
One to six pallets: LTL. Six to eighteen pallets: price partial truckload, which skips terminal handling and reduces damage. Above that, or for fragile, high-value, or time-critical freight: full truckload.
What do I need to get a freight quote?
Origin and destination ZIP codes, commodity, total weight, pallet count and dimensions, pickup date, and whether either end has a dock. Anything unusual — hazmat, temperature range, oversize — matters too.
Are you a broker or a carrier?
Backhaulers is an FMCSA-licensed freight broker. We book vetted asset carriers, which means capacity across every equipment type rather than whatever a single fleet happens to have available.
Do you handle oversize and overweight loads?
Yes. We arrange permits, route surveys, and escorts for over-dimensional freight on step deck, double drop, and lowboy equipment.
How do you handle detention and accessorial charges?
They are disclosed at quote time. Detention starts after two free hours at each stop; liftgate, tarping, driver assist, and inside delivery are quoted before dispatch, not added afterward.
What areas do you cover?
All 50 states, with the heaviest volume across the continental US. Alaska and Hawaii move through ocean and air partners.
